Building a Sales Career in DACH

by Sales in DACH
Oct 22, 2025

When I first started in sales, I thought success meant “just sell more.”
But after years of watching hundreds of sellers grow (and some burn out), one thing became clear:
Sales isn’t just a job. It’s a craft.

And like any craft, it needs clarity, consistency, and courage.

This week, we sat down with Toygar Cinar to talk about how to build a career in sales that doesn’t just pay well but lasts.
From crafting a standout CV to mastering interviews and navigating the cultural nuances of the DACH market, Toygar shares practical steps every seller can take to move from rep to reputation.

What You’ll Learn

1. How to Write a CV That Gets Noticed in DACH

Your CV isn’t a record of your past. It’s a trailer of your potential.
Focus on impact statements over task lists:

“Don’t write ‘responsible for pipeline growth.’ Write ‘built €1.2M pipeline in 3 quarters with 42% close rate.’”
DACH recruiters want specifics, not superlatives.

2. The Traits Sales Leaders Look For

Across hundreds of interviews, two traits consistently top the list:
Resilience and Coachability.
Resilience proves you can handle rejection. Coachability proves you are open to learn from rejections and turn them around next time.
Both matter more than experience.

3. How Cultural Expectations Shape Sales Careers

In DACH, credibility beats charisma.
That means:

  1. listening first
  2. giving evidence second
  3. And thirdly, asking smart, logical questions

Quick Win Challenge

Open your CV or LinkedIn profile.
For every bullet point, ask yourself:
“Would I hire me based on this line?”

If not, rewrite it as an outcome, not a task!

Your career is your biggest deal.
Negotiate it, craft it, and tell its story like a pro.

D≠A≠CH: 3 markets = 3 pitches
Do NOT treat "DACH" as one market with one pitch. Germany, Austria, and (German-speaking) Switzerland share a language, yes, but the Sales Culture does differ! Same words. Different rooms. ‼️Disclaimer: This week's newsletter is based on Conversations with Sales Reps and Research. If you're still not sure, find a Sales Rep in the country and ask them directly. They will have first-hand experien...
Turn GDPR in DACH into your Superpower 🦸
Most Sales Reps treat data protection like a checkbox or push it on to Legal to handle it In DACH, GDPR can be your superpower as it turns you into a trusted advisor rather than a seller. How you talk about data handling during the pitch, not after it, can be the thing that actually wins trust. The research: A representative survey of 2,000 German consumers found this: A third of Respondents sa...
