D≠A≠CH: 3 markets = 3 pitches

by Sales in DACH
Jul 22, 2026

Do NOT treat "DACH" as one market with one pitch.

Germany, Austria, and (German-speaking) Switzerland share a language, yes, but the Sales Culture does differ! Same words. Different rooms.

‼️Disclaimer: This week's newsletter is based on Conversations with Sales Reps and Research. If you're still not sure, find a Sales Rep in the country and ask them directly. They will have first-hand experiences to share!

What the research shows:

Germany:

Fast to business, low on small talk. German business culture isn't overly friendly or spirited in communication. Small talk is generally avoided, and personal space is guarded both physically and conversationally. Bring data, get to the point, skip the warm-up.

Austria:

Formal, structured, and allergic to vagueness. Austrian business culture tend to be direct and detailed, with a clear strategy and plenty of facts. If you're vague, expect to be asked to clarify. Meetings are highly structured, and it's important to observe hierarchy, with the highest-ranking person often entering the room first. Skip the German directness-as-bluntness; Austrians want precision wrapped in more formal courtesy.

German-speaking Switzerland:

Formal, cautious, and unimpressed by anything that feels like showmanship. Swiss business culture is formal and conservative, with a direct and polite communication style and a hierarchical structure where decisions are made top-down. Presentations should be clear and concise, avoiding jargon, with a summary given before launching into the full pitch.

Here are 3 concrete pitch adjustments by market:

1. Germany 🇩🇪 : Cut your intro in half.

If your deck has three slides of company background before the value prop, cut two. Germans want the substance fast.

2. Austria 🇦🇹 : Add the structure back in.

Where Germans want speed, Austrians want a visible, methodical plan. Show your rollout timeline, your escalation path, your named contacts. Vagueness reads as unpreparedness, not confidence.

3. Switzerland 🇨🇭 : Remove the energy, add the patience.

Formal, cautious, risk-averse. Documentation and precision win and energy & enthusiasm alone read as unsubstantiated. Summarise first, then pitch.

From the Sales in DACH Ecosystem ✨

This is the exact reason a one-size-fits-all sales script doesn't work across DACH. If you're not sure about your current approach, here's a best practice from our Sales in DACH members: Just say it!

With a statement like: I appreciate our countries handle business culture differently, so if you prefer me to 'reduce without losing substance', just let me know! 😉

You will make people smile or at least appreciate you for trying rather than ignorantly pushing your own agenda.

The Prospecting Flywheel
Svenja won the last 2 Power Calling Challenges in a row with a repeatable prospecting engine she shares today with the Sales Community. Most reps treat calling as something they do. Svenja treats it as somewhere she goes. Prospecting isn't an activity. It's a state of mind you enter and defend! Once you see hunting as a zone you deliberately step into (and deliberately protect!) rather than s...
Alara's Blueprint for owning your Ramp Up
Everyone obsesses over sales techniques, objection handling, discovery frameworks and the perfect cold call opener. But that is actually missing one of the biggest points in sales! The people who dominate from day 1 are not the Salesy Technique People, but the ones who are experts in their own character! Meet Alara Karabakan, Account Executive at Doctolib. She started in January 2026 and has ov...
Enterprise Prospecting Mastery
"I get so many calls and emails a day. In the end, every vendor does basically the same thing. So honestly, I don't care who does what anymore." - a Cold Call Response from a Prospect That's the market we're prospecting into. And that's why today we show how Jannis Ruß maps prospecting across 4 evolutionary stages: feature-based selling ↓ solution-selling ↓ value-selling ↓ trigger-se...
