The Science of Happiness

Or... how to trick your Brain into a better Mood

Winter is tough.... Short days. Less sunlight. Lower energy.

And, for many sellers in DACH, this time of year comes with an added layer of pressure. Targets, uncertainty, and the feeling of running on an empty pipeline.

What most people don’t realise is that happiness is not just an emotion.
It is chemistry. And that means you can influence it deliberately!

One Act of Kindness Changes Your Brain 🤯

Research shows that a single act of kindness creates a measurable happiness response in the brain.

Kindness triggers the release of 3 key neurotransmitters and hormones:

Serotonin stabilises mood and increases feelings of calm and well-being

Dopamine, the brain’s reward chemical, creates motivation and a sense of achievement

Oxytocin, the love hormone, strengthens connection, trust, and feelings of belonging

This means kindness is not just “nice behaviour”. It is a biological intervention.

Why this matters especially NOW

During darker months, many people wait for motivation, energy, or happiness to return on its own. But the brain does not work that way.

If your environment gives you less stimulation, you must create it intentionally!

Acts of kindness are one of the fastest and most reliable ways to do that because they bypass overthinking and go straight to neurochemistry.

You do not need more sunlight to feel better. You just need a trigger. 🌞

How get your Daily Mood Reset

Here are a few examples of 'Acts of Kindness' you can do today:

  • Send a genuine thank you message
  • Give someone specific positive feedback
  • Help a colleague without being asked
  • Hold the door for a stranger
  • pay for your friend's coffee
  • check in on someone who might be struggling

The size of the action does not matter. The intention does.

Why this is especially powerful for Sellers

Sales can be mentally demanding.

Rejection. Pressure. Uncertainty. The list goes on and on...

Acts of kindness shift your focus outward instead of inward.
They reduce stress, increase emotional resilience, and create a sense of control over your internal state. In other words, kindness is a strategy!

How to talk to Strangers at Events
Be honest: when did you last walk up to someone at a trade fair or event and started talking to them? For a lot of us, that feels strange now, which is not a coincidence. Gartner predicted in 2020 that 80% of B2B sales interactions would move to digital channels by 2025, a forecast that has since been confirmed by McKinsey's 2024 B2B Pulse data. Now Gartner says that by 2030, 75% of B2B Buyers ...
The most powerful weapon in a Sales: Storytelling
Have you ever wondered why your prospect ghosts you even though you have the perfect presentation, the numbers check out and the ROI is airtight?  Almost every time it has nothing to do with your data, but with their 'brain' 🧠! Our brain isn't a data processor. It's a storytelling machine. And the salespeople who understand that (and use it correctly) win! The Data Before we get practical, here...
